Two WSOP Players Bust on Very First Hand of $10,000 Main Event

The buy-in for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event is $10,000. Anyone who can come up with that dough is able to compete, and no doubt they will be hoping to get a day or two of fun out of it at the very least. That wasn’t the case for two players this year, however.

One of the first to bow out out of the competition was Travis Darroch, who didn’t get past his first hand. Holding a full house after the river, Canadian Darroch went all in against his opponent David Williamson – little did he know Williamson had the superior hand of quads.

The same fate befell American player Craig Issod on a separate table. On the first hand again, Issod found himself in a heated battle with Harlan Karnofsky. They both ultimately went all in and Karnofsky tabled the nuts with a straight, while Issod’s flopped set was cracked on the river.
While both men busted on their first hand, it was Darroch that lasted the shortest amount of time. It was also his first ever Main Event, no doubt making the long trip back home even more bitter. Speaking on X, Darroch said he is “getting hate from all sides” following the bust but has had “love from some good people.”
Hundreds of other players also lost their seats on Day 1a of the Main. This includes Brad Owen, Kahle Burns, Kyle Julius, Upeshka De Silva, Freddy Deeb.
