DraftKings has made a major step into the world of online poker, releasing a real money, player-vs-player poker game in Michigan.

The game, called Electric Poker, can be found by any players in Michigan with a DraftKings account in the casino lobby.

Electric Poker is DraftKings’ take on the popular jackpot sit-and-go format, which can go by many names depending on the operator. The format has been much copied by other operators since being introduced by Winamax in 2013 and is now one of the most popular forms of online poker, since it allows players to win large amounts of money from a small buy-in in just a few minutes.

Electric Poker games are three-player, winner-take-all tournaments with a randomized prize. Buy-in levels are set at $1, $5, $10 and $25, with a top possible prize of 10,000 times the buy-in, giving a potential maximum prize pool of $250,000. Blind levels increase every two minutes, and after a few levels, the remaining players are forced all-in every hand to determine a winner, making the action fast and furious. For the higher prize multipliers, the games last twice as long.

The move is just a small step for now and may simply be a case of DraftKings dipping its toe into the water as it explores options for moving further into online poker in the future. If it proves popular in Michigan, expect to see significant expansions.
