Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board releases annual industry and diversity reports

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Monday released its 2023-24 annual reports on the gaming industry and diversity.

The 18th annual report on the gaming industry states it generated $5.89 billion and $2.54 billion in tax revenue, while employing 15,857 people.

“The success of legalized gaming has led to a significant tax base that is generating millions of dollars a day to lower school property taxes, boost business within Pennsylvania’s agricultural community by supporting horse and harness racing, fund economic development projects throughout the Commonwealth, and provide financial assistance to local communities,” the report states.

The report includes revenue from all forms of gambling, including slot machines, table games, sports wagering, internet gaming, fantasy sports contests and video gaming terminals at eligible truck stops.

The PGCB was established in 2004 through the passage of the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The number of outlets for various types of gaming regulated by the PGCB are:

The reports also refers to the PGCB’s recognition of problem gambling and self-exclusion programs.

“At the same time as we report the positive economic impacts of legalized gambling, the Gaming Control Board remains committed to protecting our citizens,” said PGCB Chair Denise J. Smyler in the report. “The PGCB ensures games are properly regulated and fair, and that tools are easily available to assist those who develop adverse gambling habits.”

The PGCB also released its 17th Annual Diversity Report Monday. It features a description of each casino’s activities about implementation of diversity plans and the action taken by the licensees to achieve “the Commonwealth’s goal of enhanced representation of diverse groups in the gaming industry.”

“Pennsylvania’s casinos continue to offer competitive compensation packages and growth opportunities to attract exceptional talent,” said PGCB Director of Diversity Mozelle E. Daniels in the report.

“As competition for talent has intensified, the casinos have developed and implemented strategies to recruit, hire, and retain employees. These strategies also embrace work-life balance, encourage communication, promote team collaboration, highlight innovation, and accentuate work-place flexibility. The casinos’ emphasis on talent development and retention has consistently resulted in significant internal advancements and has played a major role in the industry’s resilience and ongoing success.”
