Light & Wonder Announces 12% Increase In Revenues For Q3

Light & Wonder achieved a notable 12% year-over-year growth in revenue, reaching $817 million in the third quarter, however, that despite this revenue increase, net income saw a decline from $80 million to $64 million. This decrease the company says is attributed to restructuring costs and ongoing legal challenges, particularly concerning the litigation surrounding its Dragon Train title in the United States.

Revenue Breakdown

The revenue growth was not uniform across all divisions, with each segment contributing differently to the overall performance:

Gaming Segment Performance

The gaming segment has been a powerhouse for Light & Wonder, demonstrating substantial growth during the third quarter. The sales of gaming machines surged by 38%.

SciPlay’s Contribution

The SciPlay division has also played a crucial role in Light & Wonder’s overall revenue growth. The 5% year-over-year increase in revenue to $206 million signifies the strength of the social casino market, with the AEBITDA growth of 8% to $61 million.

The social casino segment’s ability to maintain high player engagement is particularly noteworthy. This consistent performance suggests that Light & Wonder’s investment in enhancing user experiences and expanding game offerings is paying off.

iGaming Sector Developments

The iGaming segment, while experiencing a 6% revenue increase, faced challenges as AEBITDA contracted by 4%. The revenue growth to $74 million can be attributed to the ongoing expansion of online gaming in North America and Europe, coupled with successful content launches that resonate with players.

Despite the contraction in AEBITDA, the overall growth in revenue indicates a positive trend for the iGaming sector. This segment remains a key area of focus for Light & Wonder.

Challenges and Legal Matters

While Light & Wonder’s financial results are healthy, the company is not without its challenges. The decline in net income from $80 million to $64 million raises questions about the impact of restructuring costs and ongoing legal matters. The litigation surrounding the Dragon Train game title in the United States has been a significant concern.

The ongoing legal challenges related to the Dragon Train title present another hurdle for Light & Wonder. Legal disputes can be costly and time-consuming, potentially diverting resources away from core business operations.

Matt Wilson, President and CEO of Light & Wonder, shared his perspective on the company’s recent performance. He emphasized the collective efforts of the talented workforce and the importance of a robust research and development platform in driving results.
